Our Story
We brought home two bottle babies in June 2022 with the idea that goats could help manage brush on our farm northwest of Chariton, Iowa. Today, Shayland Farm is home to approximately twenty breeding does.
We’re building our herd around proven bloodlines and what we see in our own pasture: sound structure, parasite resistance, and does that raise their kids well. A pedigree matters, but so does how a goat performs.
Some early lessons were expensive. They’re why every incoming goat is tested for CL, CAE, and Johne’s and quarantined for at least 30 days before joining the herd. We publish our test results because anyone buying from us should be able to see the same records we rely on.
Why we chose Kiko goats
Hardy, efficient, and low maintenance
Bred for parasite resistance
Efficient grazers on little supplemental feed
Strong mothers that kid unassisted
Our Herd's Foundation
Our herd includes registered New Zealand, registered Purebred, Percentage Registered, and Commercial goats. We value pedigrees, but we also pay close attention to structure, parasite resistance, and how an animal performs on our farm.

100% New Zealand
Registered Kikos whose ancestry traces entirely to the original goats imported from New Zealand.

Purebred
Registered Kikos that meet Purebred requirements, though their ancestry may include lines outside the 100% New Zealand lineage.

Breed Up
Commercial does and Percentage Registered offspring that earn their place through sound structure and performance. A pedigree does not tell the whole story.
Our records are open
Early experience taught us how much herd health matters. Testing, quarantine, and sharing the results are part of how we run Shayland Farm.
